Lesson 2 of 11 · The market

What does clipping actually pay?

Two different numbers get quoted as "what clipping pays" and only one of them is a campaign rate. Here is the difference, and what the campaigns on our board are paying right now.

Two numbers get called “what clipping pays”

Search the question and you will be given a figure somewhere between 20 cents and $4 per 1,000 views. Nearly all of those numbers are answering a different question from the one you asked, and the difference is worth more to you than any of the numbers.

The first kind is platform monetisation: the platform paying you a share of its own ad money for views on your account. Those are the figures below, and they are the platforms’ own published ranges rather than ours.

  • TikTok creator programme$0.20 – $1.00 per 1,000 views
  • YouTube Shorts$0.50 – $2.00 per 1,000 views
  • Facebook Reels$2.00 – $4.00 per 1,000 views

Every one of those comes with a door you have to get through first: a follower count, a watch-hours threshold, a country list, an application. If you are starting today, none of them will pay you anything for months.

The second kind is a campaign rate: a brand or creator paying you directly, out of their budget, for views on clips of their content. There is no follower threshold, because they are not paying you for an audience — they are paying for views their content got. That is the number this course is about, and it is the one you can start earning this week.

What the campaigns are paying today

$2.00 per 1,000 views

The typical live campaign right now, weighted across every campaign on the board.

That is a median rather than an average, and the distinction is not pedantry. One campaign advertising a spectacular rate on a $2,000 budget will drag an average upwards and describe nobody: the money runs out in a day and almost no one is paid at it. A median describes the campaign you are actually likely to be looking at. The single highest rate on the board today is $1000.00, and it is exactly the kind of figure that flatters an average.

The arithmetic, once

It is one multiplication and it is worth doing by hand once, because after that you will do it in your head every time you open a campaign. Views divided by 1,000, times the rate.

At today’s typical $2.00: a clip that does 10,000 views earns $20.00. One that does 100,000 earns $200.00. A run of thirty ordinary clips averaging 8,000 views each earns $480.00 — which is the shape of a real clipping month far more often than one big number is.

Notice what that last figure is made of. It is not one viral clip. It is volume at an unremarkable average, which is the part of this business that is actually within your control.

The average is a starting point, not an answer. What decides your month is the spread underneath it — because the same 1,000 views are worth four or five times more in one niche than in another, and the gap is not where most people assume.

How do you read a clipping campaign?

Five fields are printed where you can see them. Four more decide whether you get paid, and they are usually further down the page than anyone scrolls.
